The Jadeclaw Illustrations

I was commissioned for some illustrations for the Jadeclaw expansion module for the Ironclaw role-playing game, published by Sanguine Productions, Ltd. The setting for these images is a furry mideval China analog peopled by all kinds of species, but more notably by those that comprise the Chinese zodiac. These species in particular comprise the noble aristocracy of the land. Certain other species feature as "barbarians" or foriegn mercenaries, etc.

Overall, I had a wonderful time working on this project, since it allowed me the opportunity to really push myself in terms of character design and drawing species I wouldn't normally think to render on my own. Also, I was only given a laundry list of species and titles to work from, no background or plot context or real characterization. Which meant I had to come up with a coherent, cohesive "story" and give them each a persona. This at least guides the drawing process so the resulting images look like they belong together and are all taking place in the same world.
